My car was manufactured late in 1969 and ‘first registered’ in January 1970. It was exported to British Leyland Motors in New Jersey and subsequently supplied to the Los Angeles Rover dealer. West Coast cars automatically had air conditioning whereas this was optional for East Coast cars.
The car along with two others was imported by the late Ian Wilson in 2005, my car arrived in the U.K. minus its engine and offside front wing complete with a pretty rotten interior, however its mileage was just 36674.
I purchased the car in April 2006 and finally took delivery in August when we had an enjoyable drive from Doncaster to London.
All the plastic and vinyl has either been replaced with burr walnut or veneers and similarly the whole interior is finished in hide. The interior features, some of Rolls-Royce parts, the rear quarter panels fitted with vanity mirrors and Silver Spirit headrests all round. The rear centre armrest incorporates a recess containing two miniature bottles of champagne and two cut glass mini tumblers. The sun visors have been replaced by ones from a Rover P4. The centre console carries the A/C controls and an Alpine four speaker radio/CD system. An outside temperature gauge has been installed below which is its switch, matched up to a similar switch which controls the under bonnet light. All the carpets in the passenger compartment and boot have been replaced with 80/20 Wilton and the footwells also have 100% nylon overcarpets. Since acquisition a detailed service history has been compiled, together with the appropriated MOT certificates. All tools are present, together with the cream hardbound Owner’s Manual in colour.
